Glenwood South Neighborhood Collaborative sponsors periodic neighborhood mixers at local restaurants. The mixers provide an opportunity for local residents and business owners to socialize in a relaxed atmosphere. Appetizers are provided by the venue and door prizes from local merchants are given away.

Slide the City

A crowd estimated at 7,000 people joined the Glenwood South Slide the City party on Saturday, May 30, 2015.  It was a fun day for people of all ages.   Sliders reported to ABC11 that they enjoyed “being a kid” for the day, while others came down to watch people hurling themselves down the 3-block slide on the main street of Glenwood South.

Down & Derby

In October 2015, the GSNC produced the Glenwood South “Down & Derby” Soap Box Derby.  Racers competed for trophies in speed, creativity and just making it to the finish line! The inaugural event was cold and rainy but that did not discourage the spirits or the competitive nature of our race teams.  Teams arrived with a variety of fun and inventive cars ready to compete to be the first champion of the Down & Derby.  The eventual winner was A.B. Goodrich Contracting, followed by London Bridge Pub and Century 21 Triangle Group.

Wednesdays on Glenwood

Wednesdays on Glenwood grew out of a desire shared by residents and merchants of Glenwood South to convey the way we see ourselves.  We’re quirky, creative, approachable and always looking for ways to engage with visitors and each other.  What better way to encourage people to linger in our neighborhood than to offer sidewalk entertainment, and food and drink specials?  It makes it easy for people of all ages to enjoy downtown life.

June 2014

In June 2014, a chalkboard poetry wall highlighting favorite neighborhood quotes and poetry was constructed on the former Clark Art building. Today that building will be the new home of Tin Roof. Donna Belt and friends were dedicated to changing the poetry wall on a regular basis. Donna has this to say about the poetry wall. “I’m grateful to Charles Long for allowing the GSNC to use the former Clark Art building for the past five years as a Poetry Board highlighting community. Whether it was reviewing the US Constitution, pulling out favorite song lyrics, sharing memories of summer, or providing ground for a group zentangle, these chalkboard shutters served as an ever changing picture of neighborhood connections.”
